Muraho,
Outside the plane window I saw what looked like waves of lights.. It was Kigali, Rwanda, the land of a thousand hills.. I arrived after midnight. The African air was sweet and welcoming. I came to Rwanda to understand how a nation once shattered by hatred and unimaginable violence, became a beacon of unity and reconciliation around the world.
I visited genocide memorials, spoke with survivors and perpetrators about life, death, forgiveness, and reconciliation. I was welcomed into the homes of villagers where we shared stories, laughed, ate, and danced into the night. I formed deep lasting friendships. My heart is filled with the warmth and generosity of a loving people.
I came to learn about a genocide. I discovered the heart of humanity. I am forever grateful...
From Rwanda with love ~
